EDUCATION - MEMBER COURSES - ELECTIVE COURSES
SAIL

Sail guides the student through the special terminology and dynamics of sailing, hulls and rigging, wind and water forces and balance, points of sail, sail handling, and navigation rules unique to sailing. This new course consists of two modules; Basic Sail 101 and Advanced Sail 102.


Basic Sail 101
includes the following topics: Sailboat Rigs, Boat Design and Hull Types, rigging (standing and running), sailing up and downwind, Docking, anchoring and Navigation Rules I.


Advanced Sail 102
includes wind forces, stability and balance, tuning the rig, steering and helmsmanship, heavy weather sailing racing and Navigation Rules II.
