All Boats - State Registration or Federal Documentation
Boats Under 26'
Capacity - Persons, Weight, Horsepower, etc. (under 20' only)
Oil Discharge & Waste Discharge (suggested, not required)
Boats Over 26'
Oil Discharge (5" x 8")
Waste Discharge (4" x 9")
(Boats over 40' with a galley must also have a Waste management Plan.)
A copy of Inland Navigation Rules must be on board.
Marine Sanitation Devices ( Boats with installed Heads)
Boats Under 65'
Coast Guard certified Type I, II or III MSD
Boats Over 65'
Coast Guard certified Type II or III MSD only.
(Local laws vary greatly on this one, please check all local regulations.)
Fire Prevention
(All gasoline powered vessels with enclosed engine compartments.)
Engine Compartment Ventilation (Bilge Blower)
Backfire Flame Arrestor (Installed on the engine)
Not Required but Recommended
Manual Bailer and/or Bilge pump (required by most states), VHF Radio,
Cell Phone (near shore), EPIRB (far from shore), Up-To-Date Nautical Charts,
Compass, Electronic Navigation Equipment, Life Raft, Boat Hook, Fenders,
Lines, Anchor and Rhode (required in NY), Depth Sounder or Lead Line, Oars,
Smoke, Fire and CO Detectors, First-Aid Kit, Flash Light, Tools and Spare parts
